About Chance Press
Jul 22nd, 2008 by chancepress
Chance Press is a small press started in 2008 by Jordan and Justine Hurder. We publish things we like – comics, poetry, essays, art, fiction, and so on. Sometimes we publish known authors/artists, but most of the time we focus on people who, despite being amazingly talented, have had little-to-no success getting published.
Here are answers to some questions you might have about Chance Press:
Q: Do you accept submissions?
A: No, although we do periodically call for submissions for specific types of work. Check our blog for announcements.
Q: Will you read my novel/poetry/comic?
A: Probably not. What we have to say is pretty irrelevant anyway, since we have no credentials as “publishers” besides the fact that one day we decided to start publishing books that we liked. If you really feel strongly about us checking out your work, emailing a link to your website is ideal.
Q: Do you pay authors you publish?
A: With contributor’s copies, yes.
Q: Do you have any copies of books that are sold out on your online store?
A: No, besides the one or two copies we keep for our own collection, once a book is gone, it’s gone. However, if we feel there’s a demand for it, we sometimes do second printings of some of our books, so drop us a line to let us know which titles you’d like to see back in print.
Q: Who writes the blog?
A: The blog isn’t written by either one of us, but by a fleshopod automaton inhabited by our shared consciousness. Good question, though.
