“It didn’t matter how much I abused it, I couldn’t kill it.  Well, almost.” With that, author Michael Phillips prefaces the demise of his first guitar, a Gibson Flying-V knock-off known only by its catalog description: No. 2236 Flying Wedge.  This memoir is a humorously written ode to an object, but anyone who has played a guitar knows that it doesn’t take long for the guitar to become a lot more than a hunk of wood and metal.  This little book is also a course in memoir-writing, perfectly capturing and celebrating the youthful drive to become a rock star, and the realization that using simple electronics to create extremely loud noise is almost as good.

Edition Details:

No. 2236 Flying Wedge is a hand-sewn single-signature chapbook.  The covers are Gocco-printed onto linen cardstock wrappers, and the text is on Hammermill heavyweight color copy paper.  The endpapers are color laser printed on bright white vellum; the advance proof copies also feature green paper dustwrappers using stationery paper.

The deluxe edition features mould-made Fabriano Murillo paper (our new favorite paper) covers, folded with a flat spine that is then covered with green stationery paper to mimic the look of a 1/4-clothbound hardcover.  Each cover is adorned with decorative black metal corner protectors, and – more importantly – an original acrylic painting by the author.  The text is on Strathmore lined paper, and the vellum endpapers are the same as those in the trade edition.  Additionally, each copy is signed and contains a mini Gocco print of the design printed on the cover of the trade edition.  Finally, as an added touch, each copy will be shipped in a lettered, Gocco printed envelope.
