Chance Press is proud to publish the first book by Canada’s Stephen Hines, titled The Confusion Will be Enough for Them to Leave you Alone.  The text is short – eight prose poems, to be exact – although each word cuts so deeply that these short bursts constitute a major work.  Hines is a master of the economy of words, and he uses each line to embellish the circumstances surrounding each poem, giving everything he writes its own life outside of the page.  In addition, Hines also provides the cover image and interior illustrations for this book.

Ordering:

The first edition is limited to 65 copies for sale and 15 advance proofs (reserved for the author and the publisher).   We have also printed 30 Gocco prints of the cover image on vellum.  Each print is numbered and signed by the author; 20 are offered for sale along with the trade edition only.

Edition Details:

The Confusion Will be Enough for Them to Leave you Alone is a hand-sewn single-signature chapbook.  The covers are Gocco-printed onto kraft cardstock wrappers using an original drawing by the author.  The endpapers are made using parts of banana trees; the trade edition uses brown endpapers, while the advance proofs (not for sale) use green endpapers.

The deluxe edition features a concertina-style binding using heavyweight Fabriano paper, and each poem is hand tipped using brushed metal fasteners.  All deluxe copies are signed by the author and include an exclusive signed, lettered Gocco print of the cover image on heavy kraft cardstock as well as a bonus mini-print on vellum.
