A Common Thread: The Poetry of Bukowski.net is the first book published by Chance Press. Justine and I met on Bukowski.net, the website devoted to iconic writer Charles Bukowski, and so we saw it as fitting that our first book would be a tribute of sorts to the people who keep the site vibrant in addition to simply informational. The book is a collection of poetry by Bukowski-lovers, but certainly not by wannabes, and it is significant in that it collects original work from well-known small press warriors alongside poetry from authors first appearing in print.
Ordering:
Both the first printing (50 copies) and the second printing (~25 copies) are sold out.
Edition Details:
A Common Thread is a 2-signature hand-sewn chapbook. Cover labels are printed letterpress by the esteemed Bill Roberts of Bottle of Smoke Press. The first edition has green textured paper wrappers and pale green tissue endpapers, and each copy has a tipped-in screenprinted envelope that contains scraps of paper signed by the poets. Five presentation copies are printed on special paper sewn into black paper wrappers and are housed in custom-made clamshell cases by the majestic Bill Roberts.
The second edition cover stock changed based on what we had on hand as we sewed up each individual batch – most of the copies have charcoal gray Fabriano wrappers, although later copies have lighter gray Canson card wrappers, while still later copies have Wyndstone Aria green wrappers. The signed edition contains the aforementioned screenprinted signature envelope. The unnumbered edition has a tipped-in strip of paper printed with the artwork featured on the signature envelope.
